Connecting worlds
During her studies at the Gerrit Rietveld art academy, Cecile was constantly struggling to balance the structured way of thinking prescribed by her background in economics and liberal modes of thought introduced at the art academy. Every single day, these two opposing worlds were also present in her physical environment: the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and the Loyens & Loeff law office next door.
Cecile graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy with the project: I Wonder Where We Will Meet. In this project, she built a bridge, literally connecting the Gerrit Rietveld Academy building and the Loyens & Loeff law office. During her graduation event, Cecile held guided tours for each group passing through the other’s world. Students, teachers and visitors of the end-exam exhibition at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy were invited to take a step to the other side and get a drink at the terrace of Loyens & Loeff. Meanwhile, lawyers and Staff of Loyens and Loeff were given an introduction to a world just as foreign to them.
‘They live and work in such close proximity to one another; what happens when all the prejudices are pushed aside for a moment?’
